Grand Canyon- North Rim

Aug 2010

The entrance highway to the North Rim leads directly to the Grand Canyon Lodge.  The road ends there so you really can't miss it.

The Lodge is quite impressive and worth the trip if you go no further than here.  I didn't ask what the price of a room was.  My heart was already racing from the 8000 foot altitude and I didn't want to stress it any more.

This is the view from the observation room of the Lodge.  There is an equally impressive view from the cafeteria.  The prices on the menu are also equally impressive.

This is the view from Bright Angel Point which is just a short walk from the Lodge.  The view is typical of what you will see from the North Rim in that it is a view across the Canyon rather than down into it.  Any sight of the Colorado River is rare.

The short walk to Bright Angel Point could be exciting.  If you should step off the path, the next stop is more than 6000 feet down.  Not to worry however.  The line of rocks you can see across the lower left corner of the picture are considered a sufficient barrier to any such accidents.

These pictures are from Point Imperial which is the highest point along the North Rim, about 8800 feet.  In the picture to the right, what appears to be a plateau in the distance is actually the South Rim of the Canyon.

The Grand Canyon seen from any aspect is truly spectacular.  The view from the North Rim is very different from that of the South or West Rims but it is no less impressive.
